Nepali short film ‘Dhartipurta’, produced by 15-year-old Aditya Khadka, has been awarded at the 33rd Chicago International Children Film Festival on Saturday. The film received the second prize in the competitive festival.‘Dhartiputra’ is a short documentary which portrays the miraculous survival of four-month-old Sonis Awal during the 2015 earthquake. The documentary focuses on emotions and feelings of Rasmeela (Sonis’s mother) during those 22 hours and after her son being rescued, according to Khadka.A total of 289 films were in the competition where Khadka’s film won an award in the Young Filmmaker category. Khadka is currently studying in Grade 10 at the Vidhya Sanskar School. CIFF is one of the most reputed film festivals in the world and is the biggest film festival for children and youth in North America, according to Khadka. Earlier, ‘Dhartiputra’ had won the ‘Best Documentary’ award in the Real Time Film Festival, Nigeria, last month.The same film was awarded in the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival Seismic Short Competition last year.
